Kanyena Primary School Solar Mini-Grid, Nyimba District (2025)
12kW solar mini-grid to Kanyena Primary School
In November 2025, Engineers without Borders Zambia (EWB Zambia) commissioned a 12 kW solar mini-grid at Kanyena Primary School in Nyimba District, Eastern Province. This is the second project out of the larger Engineering Brighter Tomorrows program, which aims to electrify 12 rural clinics and schools in Zambia and Malawi. To ensure the long-term sustainability of the system, the project places a strong focus on involving the community and building local capacity through training in operation and maintenance.
Chimpanje Rural Health Center was the pilot project in the Engineering Brighter Tomorrows program, and Dambe Primary School and Health Care Center is the third project to be completed.
